1950s: In 1953 Guild® opened a small 1,500-square-foot facility in New York City. Initially hand-building a small selection of high-quality Spanish electrics, cases and strings---it wasn't long before the name Guild® became synonymous with acoustic flat-tops of substantial quality and craftsmanship.

Over the next decade, Guild®'s reputation continued to build, necessitating that the company relocate to much larger buildings in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1956.

1960s: The company expanded further, relocating to Westerly, Rhode Island in 1967. By the end of the 1960s, Guild®'s catalogue included a wide array of acoustic and electric flat-tops and archtops known for their value, reliability and tone.

While the D-55 has been our flagship dreadnought since 1968---among these landmark instruments---perhaps some of the most influential are the F-30 Aragon and F-40 Valencia guitars. Both of these, player friendly designed, small-body guitars were introduced in 1954 and represent a nod to tradition, and a spirit of ingenuity---both of which are Guild®'s cornerstones today.

1990s: In 1995 Guild® moved its facilities to Corona, California.

2000s and beyond: In 2005, Guild® began building all its Traditional and Contemporary Series guitars in Tacoma, Washington. Additionally, our Guild® Acoustic Design (GAD) Series instruments are built in the company's China factory, and feature the same high level of quality and craftsmanship players have come to expect from Guild®.

Today we're proud to offer a wide variety of traditional six and 12-string jumbo dreadnought and small-body acoustics, as well as new groundbreaking Contemporary Series instruments, which feature innovative twists on tradition. Also new are the GAD Nylon/Classical Series acoustics, which combine Old World designs, fine craftsmanship and true value.

Not unlike Guild®'s initial offerings more than 50 years ago, first and foremost, the company's instruments are designed and built to be tools---made to be played---by the musicians and artists who choose to use them. Without their skills and creativity, Guild® would be nothing more than a pair of hands, a pile of lumber and a building full of machinery. Here's to the next 50 years!
